Senate District 18 (Boulder)
Steve Fenberg was elected to the Colorado State Senate in 2016 and currently serves as the Senate Majority Leader. Before entering the Senate, Steve served for a decade as the founding Executive Director for New Era Colorado, the largest state-based young voter mobilization organization in the country. Under Steve’s leadership, New Era Colorado registered hundreds of thousands of young people to vote, helping shape Colorado’s current political landscape.
As a State Senator, Steve has focused on increasing voting access, advancing renewable energy adoption, and protecting civil and human rights. A few of his legislative highlights include:
- Creating the first legal right for homeowners to install and use battery storage systems and prohibiting interference from electric utilities
- Passing historic redistricting reform and anti-gerrymandering legislation, which voters placed in the state constitution
- Expanding in-state tuition rates to refugees attending Colorado colleges and universities
- Expanding voter registration for felons coming out of the criminal justice system
Steve has served on several committees and boards while in the Senate, including the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee, the Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee, the Governor’s Council on Blockchain Technology, and the Bipartisan Election Advisory Committee.
Senator Fenberg is a co-owner of Bread Bar in the historic town of Silver Plume, where, if you’re lucky, you might find him behind the bar serving up craft cocktails. He also has a small nonprofit management and strategic communications consulting business. Additionally, he serves on the board of the dZi Foundation, an international development organization in Nepal. Steve lives with his wife Lindsay and their dog Ellie in Boulder, Colorado.
