Senate District 16 (Boulder, Denver, Gilpin, & Jefferson Counties)
Senator Tammy Story was elected to the Colorado State Senate in 2018. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Education Committee and as a member of the Business, Labor, and Technology Committee.
As a strong advocate for effective public education, Story has worked to improve the schools in Jefferson County for 18 years. She served as an advisor to school administrators and boards and as a member and leader with the Jefferson County Associations Legislative Forum, a group dedicated to discussing education legislation with various stakeholders. Through these experiences, she learned from parents, students, teachers, and administrations how to make real improvements to Colorado’s public schools.
In 2015, Tammy took on the role of Mountain Area Lead in the Jefferson County Schools recall campaign of three school board members. The grassroots recall was a landslide success, with bipartisan support showing what a motivated and informed community can do when they unite behind the shared value of strong and effective public education.
Tammy was raised in a military family, moving nearly annually until she was 10 years old. Moving frequently and growing up with three brothers taught her to be adventurous, flexible, and independent. Prior to serving in the Senate and advocating for public education in Colorado, she worked as a speech pathologist and later as a cabinet-maker.
Tammy and her husband Mike are long-time residents of Jefferson County, where they raised their two children, Laurel and Sean.
