Senate District 20

Senator Lisa Cutter was elected to the Senate in 2022 after serving in the Colorado House of Representatives, representing Jefferson County. She currently serves as a member of the Transportation & Energy Committee as well as the Health & Human Services Committee, and is co-founder and co-chair of the Colorado Democratic Women’s Caucus.

Lisa was born in Colorado and has a deep knowledge and love for our state. Jefferson County is her longtime home where she raised her family, started a business, and began her career as an elected official. Since winning public office, she has worked tirelessly to ensure every Jeffco family has the support and resources they need to thrive. In order to build a robust economy that supports all Colorado families, Lisa has prioritized:

  • Mental health and well-being of everyone in Colorado, particularly the most vulnerable - veterans, seniors, children, persons of color, individuals with disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community;

  • Quality public education for all;

  • Access to health care, including reproductive care and mental health parity;

  • Safety, including public security as well as wildfire prevention and mitigation; and

  • Stewardship and conservation of the beautiful natural environment and resources we enjoy in Colorado by, for example, diverting waste into productive uses.

In 1998, Lisa launched Cutter Communications because she believes deep listening and powerful storytelling are the heart of building relationships and communities. Working with business and nonprofit clients, she worked on issues ranging from health care, banking, law, and housing to commercial construction, sports management and even Colorado wines.

She started her own business so she could have the flexibility to be a hands-on mother, succeed professionally and be an advocate for her community. This experience has made her keenly aware that such a balance is often unavailable to most working parents, so she is determined to ensure that every system that supports and touches the lives of busy families is well-resourced, compassionately designed, and human-centered.
