Senate District 31

Senator Matt Ball represents Senate District 31 in Denver. He serves on the Senate Judiciary and State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committees. Matt is a fifth-generation Coloradan who lives in Capitol Hill with his wife and three kids.

Matt has spent his career serving his country and community to make a difference in people’s lives. After college, he turned down a job on Wall Street to join the Army, where he served in the elite 75th Ranger Regiment. Matt deployed overseas four times, received two Bronze Stars, and continues to serve in the Army Reserves. After attending Stanford Law School on the GI Bill, he practiced law in Denver and received statewide awards for his work in criminal justice.

Matt left the law to serve as Denver’s Director of Policy, where he established the Roads to Recovery program, which diverts people struggling with mental health and substance use out of the criminal justice system and into treatment. Matt’s time in local government informs his leadership on key issues, including mental health, climate policy, and housing affordability.
