Mike Weissman
Senate District 28
Mike Weissman is State Senator for District 28 in Adams & Arapahoe Counties.
In his four terms serving Colorado as a state representative for Aurora he has helped lead progressive reforms to tax and fiscal policies to close hundreds of millions in special interest tax loopholes and instead make the tax code work for working families by expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, funding the Child Tax Credit, reducing small business taxes, promoting employee-owned businesses, and creating incentives for adoption of new green technologies by both individuals and businesses. His tax reform work has also helped fund K-12 education and the state's first-ever permanent affordable housing fund.
He has also improved consumer & renter rights by improving Colorado's warranty of habitability law, expanding the Consumer Protection Act, passing anti-price gouging laws, improving oversight of mortgage services, and fighting to reform abusive forced arbitration practices.
In addition he has passed over a dozen criminal justice reform bills with an emphasis on sealing of records and collateral consequences reduction; won more funding for technical education and concurrent enrollment; helped win reauthorization of the Colorado Civil Rights Division; taken on corporate influence in politics by increasing transparency and strengthening enforcement in campaign finance laws and increasing the frequency of lobbyist reporting in session ten-fold; and helped modernize the Colorado Open Records Act to increase access to government information.
